About NiftyImages

What is NiftyImages?

NiftyImages makes images for email that change for each person and each open: personalized images, countdown timers, polls, charts and images filled with your own data. You design in the NiftyImages editor in your browser, paste one image tag into your email platform, and NiftyImages builds the image when it's opened. Plans start at $59 a month.

How is NiftyImages different from Movable Ink?

NiftyImages is self-serve. You can sign up, build an image and put it in your next email the same day, with published prices from $59 a month and a free trial with no time limit. Movable Ink is sold through demos with custom pricing. Both make personalized, data-driven email images that are generated when the email is opened. Compare NiftyImages and Movable Ink

Designing images

Do I need Photoshop to use NiftyImages?

No. You design NiftyImages in the editor in your browser. Add text, merge tags, shapes, your own images and fonts, and data from your systems, then copy the image tag into your email.

Artwork made in Photoshop, Figma or any other design tool still works. Export it as an image and use it as a layer or background.

Does NiftyImages still use Photoshop or PSD files?

No. NiftyImages retired Photoshop images and PSD timers in favor of its own editor, which is faster to work in. You build the same layered designs in your browser: text, merge tags, your own fonts and images, and live data, with a preview that updates as you work. To change an image, open it and edit it. There's no PSD to update and upload again.

The NiftyImages editor also does things a PSD file couldn't. It can shrink a long name to fit its box, fill in values from your Data Stores or your own API, and add weather, charts and calendars to the same image.

Your Photoshop artwork still works: export it as an image and use it as a layer or background. If an old Photoshop image or PSD timer is still in a live email, rebuild it as a Personalized Image or Countdown Timer. Older blog posts and articles that describe a Photoshop workflow are out of date.

Can I use my own fonts and brand artwork?

Yes. Every NiftyImages plan lets you upload your own fonts and images. Save each brand's color palette and default font under Brands, and they show up in the editor's color and font pickers.

Connecting your data

Can NiftyImages pull data from my API?

Yes. NiftyImages Enterprise includes External Web APIs, which pull JSON from your HTTP API into your email images. A real-time API is called each time the image loads, with values such as a customer ID or ZIP code filled in from merge tags, and responses can be cached for a set time. A polling API is called on a schedule you choose, and images use the latest response.

You map fields from the response, such as a name, price or image URL, and use them in your design. Developers can reshape a response with a short JavaScript script. Learn about data sources

How do I get customer data into an image?

NiftyImages supports four sources of customer data: merge tags, Data Stores, External Web APIs and Maps.

Merge tags (every plan). Your email platform fills in values such as a first name or points balance in the image URL when it sends.

Data Stores (Scale and Enterprise). Tables hosted by NiftyImages, kept up to date by CSV import, in-app editing, the API, Zapier or an AI assistant. Scale includes two Data Stores with up to 10,000 rows each, for use in Rule Sets. Enterprise includes full Data Stores.

External Web APIs (Enterprise). Your own API, called when the image loads or on a schedule.

Maps (Enterprise). Match a recipient's location to your store or venue list and show the nearest ones. Learn about Maps

What does an image show if my API returns no data?

It shows a default you set. Each field NiftyImages pulls from an External Web API or Data Store can have a default value, so the image still reads well when your API returns no results for a recipient.

Do I need a developer to use NiftyImages?

No. Most NiftyImages campaigns use the editor and your email platform's merge tags: design the image, copy the tag and paste it into your email. You'd want a developer only to connect your own API or to manage images and data through the REST API.

AI and developers

What is NiftyImages doing with AI?

NiftyImages is built so AI assistants can work with your account. Store MCP lets you add, update and look up the data behind your images by chatting with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or another MCP-compatible assistant. For developers, the NiftyImages API documentation is written in Markdown and comes with agent skills, so a coding assistant can read the docs and build an integration with you.

An AI assistant can import a CSV into a Data Store, update one customer's record, export the results of a search, draft a countdown timer, change a timer's target date, browse your images or work with Maps. Because Data Stores feed live images, data an assistant updates shows up the next time NiftyImages builds an image from it. Learn about AI and agent access

Does NiftyImages have an MCP server?

Yes. NiftyImages Store MCP is a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for adding and updating data in your Data Stores. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and other MCP-compatible assistants. Ask the assistant to count, search, add, update or delete records, or to import a CSV. Store MCP is included in Enterprise.

Setup takes three steps: copy an API key from NiftyImages, add the server URL to your AI tool with the key in its Authorization header, and start chatting. A store API key limits the assistant to a single Data Store. Delete tools require a confirmation flag and tell the assistant to use it only when you ask for a deletion. Connect an AI assistant

Does NiftyImages have an API?

Yes. NiftyImages Enterprise includes account-level access to the v2 REST API for managing images, countdown timers and timer frames, fonts, maps and Data Stores. This is separate from External Web APIs, which pull data from your systems into images. On Scale, store-scoped API keys can add and update records in its two Data Stores.

The developer documentation has the interactive reference, guides and an OpenAPI schema for generating SDKs.

Can my AI coding assistant use the NiftyImages API docs?

Yes. Every NiftyImages API guide is published as Markdown, with an llms.txt index, a full llms-full.txt bundle and the OpenAPI schema, so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and similar tools can read them directly.

NiftyImages also publishes agent skills (SKILL.md files) that teach a coding assistant multi-step workflows: importing a CSV into a store, upserting records, searching and exporting a store, drafting a countdown timer, setting a timer's target date, browsing images and working with Maps. Add them to the assistant you already use.

How it works with your email platform

Does NiftyImages replace my email platform?

No. NiftyImages gives you a hosted image URL. You place it in your email, and your email platform sends the message as it does today. NiftyImages doesn't send email.

Which email platforms does NiftyImages work with?

NiftyImages works with any email platform that accepts an image URL, including Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, Bloomreach and ActiveCampaign. To personalize each image, the platform needs to let you put merge tags in an image URL, and most do.

Klaviyo, HubSpot and Braze also connect directly: pull their merge tags into the editor and publish finished images as reusable content blocks.

Can I change an image after the email is sent?

Yes. NiftyImages builds the image each time it loads, so you can fix a price or swap an offer after the send without resending. Countdown timers, poll results, Rule Sets and connected data also show their latest state.

An image doesn't refresh while an email stays open, and some email apps and providers cache images, so reopening an email doesn't always load a fresh one. Values filled in by merge tags are fixed when the email is sent.

Can I use NiftyImages on web pages or in SMS?

Yes. The same NiftyImages image URL works on web pages and in supported mobile messages, including MMS, rich push and in-app messages. Your messaging provider controls delivery, image support and caching. Learn about mobile
